What is a Medical Review Officer?

The Medical Review Officer (MRO) is a licensed physician responsible for receiving laboratory results generated by a drug testing program. The MRO has knowledge of substance abuse disorders and has appropriate medical training to interpret and evaluate an individual's positive test result together with his or her medical history and any other relevant biomedical inforamtion. MRO's are required in all federal drug testing programs.

Our certified MRO participates in continuing education and training in order to be aware of recent technical advances in drug testing, legal developments, changes to federal regulations, testing for adulterants, substituted specimens and "club" ("designer") drugs.

The MRO is also knowledgable in Federal regulations regarding alcohol testing including the technical, policy, and legal aspects of alcohol testing, alcohol abuse, and on-site drug testing.

Continuing education also provides for an awareness of the accuracy, reliability and interpretation of emerging drug testing technologies such as hair, saliva, sweat and on-site testing.
